Are You Depressed, Worried or in Pain because of a Job Injury?

-from Mchenry, Huntley and Dundee, IL-

If you are receiving workman's compensation or disability benefits because of a serious back injury or other work-related problems, you not only need medical help but also emotional and psychological support. There are many things which you should consider when looking for a psychologist or counselor to alleviate your depressive symptoms or help to relieve your pain.

There are a variety of therapists out there who offer psychological and emotional support. Your job is to find the best among them.

First thing you have to do is to spend some time researching psychologists in your area. The right psychologist can help you a lot by reducing your depression, anxiety and, even in providing pain relief.

A job injury psychologist, counselor or psychiatrist will have special credentials in behavioral medicine, as well as in psychology and counseling. I would recommend you find a professional who is certified by the International Academy of Behavioral Medicine, Counseling and Psychotherapy (IABMCP).

Almost every expert psychologist has a website. It is a good idea to go through the website and get to know about the psychologists professional experience with job-related injuries.

Go through the articles and information on the website to determine if he has the necessary expertise in treating the emotional conflicts of work injury patients. Upper and lower back problems are some of the worst and most painful forms of injury.

The main causes of back injuries include the lifting, pulling, pushing and carrying of inappropriate loads at a job site. These activities can be very harmful for the tendons, muscles and discs.

The injury not only harms the back and causes excruciating pain, but it also causes depression, hopelessness and overwhelming worries about the future. Unfortunately, this type of injury sometimes does not respond well to surgery or physical therapy.

Sometimes chiropractic does not help either and, since no one has the answers for you, your physical capabilities and employment future may begin to look dim indeed. The excruciating pain and inability to work may also cause strain and tension in your personal and family relationships.

Sometimes the pain-killing drugs may not work for you and you may resort to alcohol or drug abuse to try and numb the pain. This can cause another cascade of problems in your relationships with your spouse, kids and other relatives.

It is very important to get the injury diagnosed and get medical and psychological help in a timely manner. Also, it is important to identify and get information about the signs and symptoms of the emotional impact of your injury.

Common symptoms of job-related back injury include depression, feelings of futility and hopelessness, anger at the unfairness of the situation, frustration with those who do not understand and anger. If you experience any of the above symptoms be sure to consult a psychologist who practices behavioral medicine.

The three main issues confronting a back injury victim are:

1. Will I be able to work at my job again?

2. Will the pain ever go away? And,

3. How can I get my doctors and spouse-to get it-really understand my pain and suffering?

Spend some time in finding more information on pain, job injury and depression. Also, be sure you have enough information about every aspect of the legal process.

Find informative websites or blogs which are devoted to work injuries. You can also explore article directories or online magazines which offer free articles on health and psychologically- related topics.
